Utes Punter, Kicker Make All-America Teams

BY JACK PARODI

A pair of Utah special-teamers in punter Mitch Wishnowsky and kicker Matt Gay were selected to Associated Press All-American teams Monday morning.

Wishnowsky was selected as the nation’s second-team All-American punter, while Gay was named to the All-American third-team as a kicker.

The Utes’ punter demolished the football all season long, averaging 45.1 yards per punt with a season-long of 68 yards against Oregon.

Gay was as good as college kickers come, as he knocked through 24-of-29 field goals on the year (82.8 percent) and didn’t miss a single one of his 43 extra points. He added three field goals over 50 yards in 2018 as well — a 55-yarder against Oregon, a 53-yarder against Washington and a 51-yarder against Colorado.

It’s been evident for Utah fans how dominant their ball-kickers were this year, and now there’s validation that they were the best duo in the country.
